Every year, many people in Sri Lanka die because no one knows how to help properly in an emergency. Cardiovascular diseases such as heart attacks and strokes are among the leading causes of death. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), they were responsible for more than 40% of all deaths in the country in 2021.
A stroke can become life-threatening within minutes – and yet lifesaving first aid often does not happen. Many people don’t know how to react in critical moments. But the right action can mean the difference between life and death.
Our solution: First aid knowledge for everyone!
In 2024, Health Essentials International (H.E.I.) e.V., together with the University of Jaffna, launched a pilot project to teach people in Sri Lanka first aid skills. Now we want to expand this knowledge nationwide so that as many people as possible can respond quickly and safely in emergencies.
