Erste Hilfe für Motorradunfälle

In Sri Lanka, there are only a few professional emergency services, and it often takes far too long for an ambulance to arrive at the scene of an accident. In many cases, there is no other choice but to take the injured to the hospital in a tuk-tuk – but without proper first aid, this can be life-threatening.
Motorcycle accidents are a major problem: every day, people are seriously injured, often with fatal consequences. Many of these lives could be saved if immediate help were available. But most people don’t know what to do in such a situation.
Our Project: First aid when it matters most!
To address this issue, Health Essentials International (H.E.I.) e.V., together with the University of Jaffna, launched a pilot project in 2024. Our goal: to train as many people in Sri Lanka as possible in first aid – with a special focus on motorcycle accidents.
For this, we rely on “first responders”:
Dedicated volunteers who can provide direct assistance at accident scenes.
Training in essential first aid measures, especially for motorcycle accidents.
Equipping helpers with first aid kits at strategically important locations.
These volunteers bridge the critical time gap until professional medical care arrives. This way, severe injuries can be treated more effectively and lives can be saved!
Why is this project so important?
Motorcycle accidents are one of the greatest dangers for young people in Sri Lanka.
Young men are particularly affected, often driving without helmets or at excessive speeds.
Quick action can save lives.
Without proper first aid, injuries can worsen or even become fatal.
With trained first responders, we increase survival chances.
Strategically placed “first aid helpers” ensure that accident victims receive help more quickly – exactly where it is needed.
